A risky venture

It was a cold and windy day - dark grey skies threatening rain or even snow. I bundled myself up in 4 layers and took my first tentative steps out the door. As I hunched over my bike, my thoughts turned to carrots, particularly the Early Nantes variety. 'Is it too cold to sow?' I asked myself as I pedaled slowly against the wind. Well - I did anyway, but have just found out that this cold, windy front will be around for a good two weeks - oh well. Planted 4-half rows about 15cm apart and about 1-2cm deep. I watered in well (I hope I haven't just washed all the seed down to one end!) and will cover with fleece when I get a chance.

The potatoes are just starting to show signs of sprouting. More so from the Sante and Arron Pilot. The Pink Fir's don't look too interested at the moment.

The hut-bought garlics are up and looking good, whislt the plantings from our own stock are showing only one hopeful and the scotish varieties are showing nothing as of yet.

The broad beans are fully up now, showing their first true leaves, however it looks like germination was a little erratic - I might plug the holes with some fresh seed.

The Autumn Onions look fine, if not dormant (which is to be expected at this time of year).

Harvested a few Swede and the last of the white Cabbages.
